Low rainfall and consequent drought has caused considerable losses in the fish farms of this northern Iranian province of Mazandaran.
We have estimated the loss to be a total of 10 billion rials (nearly $1.1 million), director of the provincial Fisheries Department Habibnejad said, adding that fish and shrimp farming still continues in some 11,500 hectares out of the total 17,000 hectares of ponds across the province.
Mazandaran accounts for 25% of the countrys seafood production, he said.
