The head of the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM), Rosa Aguilar, is to prepare a legislative initiative to ensure that all vessels that could not be regularized get legal protection, so that there are no loss of ships or jobs.

The minister assured the Galician fishing sector that there will be "full and complete flexibility" in stabilizing 100 per cent of the fleet.

Aguilar announced the commitment during a meeting with representatives of the fishing industry organized by the PSdeG.

She also promised "loyalty" in defending the fishing sector, reports the newspaper La Voz de Galicia.

For its part, the head of the General Secretariat of Marine Affairs, Alicia Villauriz, recalled that the adjustment of the boats is a matter of particular concern in Galicia due to the large size of the sector.

She also asserted that the legislative reform is made through a single additional provision that will take affect "soon", but that it will "not be immediate", reports the newspaper Faro de Vigo.

Meanwhile, the MARM drew up in "complementary" manner, "interim measures" that are necessary for the situation to "not effect" vessels entering the process.

It is necessary that "all those vessels that were outside the law, to now be legally under it," added the secretary of Marine Affairs.
